About Kala Dungar
Kala Dungar — the Black Hill — rises 458 metres above the Rann and offers the most spectacular viewpoint in all of Kutch. From the top, the endless white salt desert meets the sky, and on clear evenings the sunset paints the horizon in deep oranges and purples.
Near the summit stands the 400-year-old Dattatreya temple, famous for its tradition of feeding jackals that gather at dusk. The hill is also a superb spot for bird watching — thousands of flamingos feed in the marshes below during winter.
